  • Marching Through Anxiety: Consistency is Key to Overcoming Obstacles

    As March arrives, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the importance of consistency and perseverance, even when you’re facing anxiety. Recently, my anxiety has been really bad, leaving me in tears at times for no reason. But even when I wake up feeling overwhelmed, I know that sticking to my workout routine is essential.

    I’m excited to share that starting on March 6th, I’ll be joining a new program on BODi that’s designed specifically for beginners.     Cycling Is Truly For E-V-E-R-Y-B-O-D-Y!

    I am fairly new to this coaching business. I know some coaches on my team who have coached for over 10 years. Watching them and seeing them grow not only as a coach but as  person inspired me. 

    I started my journey different than most. I wasn’t overly overweight, in fact I have struggled most of my life being “too skinny” or at least that’s how I felt society saw me. You see… body image comes in all shapes in sizes. You don’t always need to eat healthy and exercise to lose weight. There are many factors as to why people choose to eat healthy and exercise. After having my kids I gained some weight and after my second baby I couldn’t get rid of the “muffin top”. I felt like my body had changed and my anxiety was getting worse. I needed to find something that helped me feel good physically and mentally. I was looking to feel “NORMAL” again. Some people have said that I don’t know what it feels like to be overweight and they are absolutely right. But being overweight isn’t the only reason that some people suffer from body image. Like I said before and I’ll say it again, body image comes in ALL SHAPES AND SIZES.

    You may relate, you may not. But I share my story because I have never felt more confident in my skin than I do now. I’m pregnant with Baby #3 and I would have never showed my belly on social media before. I felt insecure and I didn’t feel that cute glow others say they feel. Looking back, I wish I had, because growing a baby inside you is a blessing. It’s truly a miracle and you may look different then that the girl on instagram but that doesn’t mean that your body isn’t as perfect or as beautiful as you see on social media, because I’m here to tell you IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND SO ARE YOU! Today, I show my belly off all the time in my videos. Who cares what others think or say, what matters is how YOU feel!

    I still struggle with anxiety, it’s something I work on everyday, but changing my nutrition and learning to exercise right has truly made a difference in my life. I share my story because I love HELPING others on their journey. So here I am talking to YOU and hoping you’re listening.

    I tell my clients all the time, nutrition is key. You can exercise all day and not get the results you are looking for if your nutrition is crap. It also works the other way around, if your nutrition is on point, you will get results but you will slowly plateau. Life is about balance and so is your nutrition and exercise.

    Eating a healthy balanced nutrition can help:

    👉 Improve Heart Disease

    👉 Gut Health

    👉 Your skin may improve

    👉 Weight Loss or Weight Gain (depending on what you are trying to achieve).

    👉 Your mood may lift

    👉 Brain Fog?? Eating healthy can help with this

    👉 Balance blood sugar levels (If you have diabetes learning to eat right can help).

    These are just a few benefits on learning to eat the right nutrition. I don’t mean fad, quick fix diets. You see a lot of people cutting out carbs, going paleo, eating only meat. You do what works for you, but I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be hard, you don’t need to feel deprived. Learning to have a balanced nutrition is important.

    The energy we need comes from foods we eat and the fluids we drink. These nutrients are broken into fats, proteins and YES Carbohydrates. Carbohydrates play an important role in helping to provide a quick energy level, especially when exercising. “Good carbs are found in foods like grains, fruits, vegetables, beans and dairy. They don’t just help you with energy, they can also play a role in mental sharpness and help your metabolism. 

    Carbohydrates can help:

    👉 Provide energy to fuel your body, including, brain, heart, and central nervous system.

    👉 Help with Digestion

    👉 Manage blood cholesterol levels

    👉 Help control glucose and insulin metabolism

    Did you know that not getting enough carbohydrates can have consequences in fatigue, weakness, constipation, vitamin deficiencies, and can cause concentrating to become difficult for you? Our human brain utilizes 20-25% of the body’s glucose. 

    Complex carbohydrates is a source of energy that helps fuel muscle contractions. Once eaten, carbs break down into smaller sugars (glucose, fructose, and galactose) which is used as energy.  Unused glucose is converted into glycogen and stored in the muscles and liver for future use. 

    Glycogen is an energy source which is often used in short intense workouts; like weightlifting or sprints. When you are exercising the stored glycogen is converted back to glucose and burned for fuel. If you are doing an endurance exercise, the glycogen breaks down fat into what your muscles can use as fuel. Not only do carbs help with muscle contraction but it also helps supply energy to your brain

    There is so much to learn about what is healthy and what is “bad” for you. I am no expert, I just like to research a lot and truly learn and understand what the body needs before feeling deprived and jumping on a band wagon “diet”. I don’t believe in diets, I think its’ a quick fix. Most people diet and fall off because it gets hard and because they miss the foods they truly love. Truly learning to eat what you feel right for you is key, learning what makes your body feel right and what you need is key. Nutrition, is KEY!

    As a coach I love seeing my clients find what works for them, seeing them feel better not just physically but mentally. I believe nutrition and exercise go hand in hand.

    Exercise also has tons of benefits, these are just a few that I’m going to list:

    👉 Reduce fatigue and gain energy

    👉 Improve balance and lower risk of injuries 

    👉 Manage and help prevent disease like arthritis, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and some cancers.

    👉Help with mood and reduce feelings of depression

    Changing your lifestyle and being consistent takes work. Quick diets don’t and that’s why a lot of people choose them. But in order to truly learn your body and learn to fuel your body right you have to find that balanced nutrition and exercise that makes you feel good.     I recently started reading the Miracle Morning  by Hal Elrod. I’m not going to say it’s changed my life and that my world has done a 160, but I’m definitely feeling motivated for change. Then again I just started the miracle morning 6 days ago. It is definitely still hard to get up in the morning as I have always considered myself to not be a “morning person.” A mom who I know through social media recommended this book. It sounded really good so when I read the first 2 chapters (which are free on Kara at bohoberry.com. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to introduce her to you and also use this lovely photo and title. On her post she reviews the book. I would totally check it out if you want to get more than just my opinion on this.

    I am now focusing on waking up earlier and bringing more energy back into my life. Since I have had the baby I feel a lot more anxious and I get irritated easily. Apparently this is “normal” for some women after having a baby. My son is a year old and I haven’t felt any better, so I definitely feel there is a change needed in my routine and my life.

    I finished the book today, which by the way I recommend reading more than once. If you’re like me, you can’t concentrate long enough to grasp every word in a book. As I read my brain doesn’t shut off and I’m constantly thinking while trying to read. YES, its as challenging as it sounds. So, although I have read the book and I’m all in on trying this ‘miracle morning’, I need to read it again just in case I missed a few things.

    Hal recommends you put your alarm clock away from your bed so that you are forced to get out of bed and not hit the snooze button. I have to admit, I have hit the snooze button each time. I set my alarm clock for 6:45am and I don’t get out of bed until 7am. I still don’t think that’s too bad, usually I would turn it off and sleep until my little one wakes me up, which is anywhere from 7:40am to 8:30am on a good day. And even then, I still wake up sleepy. On another note; this may have something to do with my thyroid but I haven’t made it out to the doctor. That’s another subject for another day.

    These are one of the many inspirational quotes in The Miracle Morning book. I love reading these inspirational quotes. They truly get you inspired to do better. The problem with these books is that you get motivated for a little while and then we forget what it was all about. This time I feel like I really want to stick with it. Waking up earlier with my husband has given us more energy. We are already feeling like we have more use of our day. My husband works from home so although he wakes up relatively early this is giving us an hour before starting our day to relax and meditate. We are even getting a little exercise in. This is all part of the miracle morning routine.

    Hal teaches you to make your own routine. So far I am following his because I find it to fit me. But you can definitely change it up to fit your life style. This is my morning routine so far:

    7am – Brush teeth and wash face

    7:10 – Drink 1 glass of water while I make my coffee

    7:15 – Sit on couch, crossing my legs and get ready for a 5 to 10 minute meditation session. I am still working on this. It is hard to shut off the mind and think of nothing. But I have to say it is nice to hear the silence in the house before my little one wakes up.

    7:25 – Affirmation – Repeat something positive. Something you want to improve in your life.

    7:30 – Visualization – Visualize your life and where you want it to be – this is fun for me. I love to visualize what my future can have.

    7:40 – WORK OUT – I like to add a little yoga in my routine with some crunches. I kind of make up my own thing, but you can definitely hit the gym or pop in a dvd.

    7:55 – Write – I write in my journal how I woke up feeling so I can see how I am progressing using the miracle morning

    8am – If my son hasn’t woken up yet I try to get a few minutes of reading in. If he is up then I try to read during one of his naps or before bed time. But MAKE TIME for this. It’s important to expand your mind and take a break from everyday life and television.

    So this is my routine so far. I may change it up and if I do I will let you know. I’m just getting started. I’m learning what works for me and what doesn’t. I will follow up with you in a few weeks to let you know how I am doing and how I am feeling.

    I have a crush on this cute guy in my apartment and when ever I see him we just pass each other and he never tries to look at me in the eyes, he just looks down or he just avoids eye contact. I once saw his young brother but I did not ask him his name. Do you think he has a crush on me too? How do I make a guy like me?

    My Response:

    Dear Shyness;

    There isn’t anything specific to making a guy like you. Just be you and you’ll find the right guy to like you as you are. Now in your situation it’s different, it’s not even about making this guy like you, as much as it is just having him talk to you. It’s either two things; either he’s really shy and doesn’t know how to approach girls or he’s simply just not that into you. You can go about this in a few ways.

    Way #1: Approach him the next time you see him in the hall way. Just say hello and start small talk. Maybe even act dumb and ask him a question, like ‘do you know where the nearest target is’?

    Way #2: Bump into him and apologize, see if this will finally open his eyes to looking at you and start a conversation from there.

    Way #3: Talk to his little brother and ask him what’s up with his brother?

    Way #4: Be straight forward, tell him you think he’s cute & you were wondering if he would like to hang out sometime?

    My preferred way to go is Way #1, if he isn’t willing to talk to you and ask your name I would just say hi to him while passing in the hallway and introduce myself to him. It’s up to you, but if he still shows no interest after that, I say let it go and move on. There are plenty of other guys out there that won’t be so shy.

    My husband asked me the other day if I was willing to go to a swingers club with him. I don’t know what to think of this. We have been married for only 2 years. Is he bored of me already that he wants to sleep with other people? I asked him why he would want to go to a swingers club and he said he just wanted to spice things up for us. I thought we had pretty good sex, so I am not sure what I can do. I don’t feel comfortable sleeping with other people or my husband sleeping with other people but I’m scared that if I don’t go he will cheat on me and leave me. Do I go so that I don’t lose him? Or do I tell him no, and hope he doesn’t leave me.

    Dear Swinger;

    If you want my personal opinion then I would say NO…. I don’t think that in a marriage people should sleep with other people. If you are married, you should be committed and happy to be with just that one person. How long have you known your husband? Has he always been a little freaky or ever indicated that he wanted to be a swinger? If this is something new that he suddenly brought up then you need to really sit down with your husband and tell him how you feel. If he is willing to end your marriage just because you don’t believe swinging is the answer to better sex, then maybe you need to truly think about what kind of man you married. Do you want to be with a man that wants to sleep with other women and that is willing for his wife to sleep with other men? Tell your husband that you are willing to try other things in the bedroom and spice it up in other ways but if you don’t feel comfortable going to a swingers club then you need to speak up. Giving in and going just because your husband wants to might end up badly in the end. You may end up resenting him for making you go. Go with your gut feeling and talk to your husband. If he loves you I am sure he will be okay with whatever decision you make.

    My Response:

    Being in an abusive relationship sometimes turns into a cycle. You did the right thing by getting out. Some women don’t ever get out and they live a life of abuse and sometimes even end up dead. Do you want to live that kind of life? Always being scared, never feeling truly loved? Don’t ever regret leaving someone who only hurt you emotionally and physically. YOU DID THE RIGHT THING, by leaving him. Trust me. You should try talking to someone, letting out your concerns and the trauma that you went through. You might not think that what you went through is much, but it is, and this can keep you from having healthy relationships in the future. You need to love yourself and respect yourself first so that the next man that comes along will love and respect you just as much as you love and respect yourself. No man should ever hit a women and know that you NEVER deserve to get hit, no matter what you say or do. Remember no man is worth you hurting over. Love yourself, respect yourself and always know that leaving a man who abused you isn’t something you should ever regret.

    I saw my son in law pleasing himself, he didn’t see me but I did stare and wonder how can my daughter be unhappy with this guy when it is so big. I looked at him for a while because he was so large. My daughter should be grateful she has a big man. Why isn’t she happy?

    My Response:

    Let me start off with EWE! You actually stared for a while, while he was pleasing himself? That is just wrong on all levels considering this is your daughters husband. Lets start off with that is wrong, and you should maybe knock before entering somewhere, or simply tell your son in law that he needs to be careful when and where he does his deeds. As for you daughter, being grateful that her man is so big and why isn’t she happy??? REALLY??? Perhaps it has nothing to do with the size of his package and more to do with how he treats your daughter. Maybe you should be more concerned about why she isn’t happy than assuming it’s because her husband has a nice package. The package only makes a women happy in one department, after that it takes more than just the package to keep you happy (as a woman I would think that you would understand this). It also just isn’t about the size of the package, the package could be large but if the man doesn’t know how to use it right, then what’s the use?!?

    I am not sure if you live with your daughter but maybe her husband and her need some privacy. Try being there for your daughter instead of wondering why she isn’t happy just because her man is well endowed.
